ESTABLISHMENT BUREAUCRACY OR “THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE”
ESTABLISHMENT BUREAUCRACY OR “THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE”
By Domenick J. Maglio PhD. Traditional Realist
In our present election system, two or more parties nominate a candidate to run for president every four years. The winner of the Electoral College becomes the president. The founders believed and had faith that the power of the people would be the best method to select the head of the executive branch with certain precautions to prevent wild swings from one election to another. The newly elected president was granted the power to act in the best interest of all the people of the US not only for the interest of the establishment elites.
Under President Woodrow Wilson the intellectual progressive experts accelerated the process of replacing the popular consent of the people as the authority in making policy. They reasoned bureaucratic experts are better informed to make the decisions for the executive branch of government. The administration became the province of the “rational experts” in the bureaucracy.
This is the reason today embedded bureaucrats make most policy decisions rather than elected representatives. This power of the bureaucracy in the executive branch expanded in the growth spurt of progressive administrations. It exploded in FDR’s “New Deal” and LBJ’s “Great Society” and continued under succeeding ones. Many of these establishment elites have been continually in Washington, D.C. administrations for 30 to 40 years and have been shielded from obvious insubordination by federal civil service protections. They have become the permanent unelected policy brain trust.
When a president is elected to change the status of the bureaucratic establishment the elites naturally fight back to preserve the ideas, procedures, protocol and power they created over time. The overturning of a duly elected president by the people’s vote has proven to be slow and laborious for the progressive republicans and democrats. Waiting for four years for a new election has infuriated bureaucratic elites who have established the “acceptable protocol” for governing even for the executive branch.
This bypasses the intentions of our founders, which had been common practice with the previous administrations. An outside disrupter appeared on the stage in 2016 as president of the United States. President Trump’s campaign and election promises were diametrically opposed to the status-quo globalist agenda. In three years of his presidency he has proven to be everything, and more that the established elites feared.
Inevitably this left the progressives two options: one to wait four years for a new election. The second one is to use divisive means to manufacture a scandal that sways public opinion against President Trump to force him out of office. They are attempting to do this through the innuendo impeachment process perfected against Supreme Court candidates, Robert Bork, Justice Clarence Thomas, Justice Brent Kavanaugh and other candidates for the court.
The reason President Trump has survived the elite establishment’s subversive attacks is because he put in place a politically sophisticated team of lawyers and politicians to counterattack the veracity of the fake media and corrupt heads of agencies. He used Twitter to go over their heads and communicate directly with the people bypassing the 24-hour news cycle. This direct communication format has worked to thwart the establishment attacks.
Without “draining of the swamp” the bureaucrat elites will continue to do everything they can to discredit any president who does not follow their script. They bide their time for a more progressively aligned future president who will work with them to smother the people’s voice. There have been many laws disregarded and callously broken by members of the establishment that must have legal consequences or the unelected bureaucrats will be emboldened to make a further mockery of the people’s voice.
The justice department will have to reassert its rightful power to prosecute arrogant, well-connected political elites. We must again establish that no one, even embedded and long term protected bureaucrats, can get away with lying, withholding or destroying pertinent evidence and blatantly misusing their power.
If this necessary and ugly process does not take place it will be inevitable that the insidious shadow government will reassert itself in more vigorous evil acts. Our founders mistrusted government to pursue the will of the people. They did everything conceivable to think of checks and balances to prevent our elected representatives from abusing their power but did not conceive of the development of a bureaucratic elite.
The monster growth of an enormous bureaucracy with extraordinary power was probably not on their radar. Yet they left us many levers of power, laws and procedures to prevent unelected officials from usurping power. Let the necessary process begin to drain the bureaucratic swamp and set us back on the correct course.
